May 11, 2011 marks the 30th anniversary of iconic reggae singer Bob Marley’s death. To honor the legend’s life, we take a look at how he grew from modest beginnings to one of the world’s most beloved musical icons.
I was in the U.K. when he died, his funeral was broadcast over the radio, and I taped the show I still have that tape today. I also had the pleasure of meeting Bob at my friend’s house. (Thanks Bran). When i heard the news that he was in the same house as myself I rushed down the stairs, flung open the door, and there he was, an ordinary man sitting by the fireplace warming his hands. I was so star struck all I could do was mumble a feeble hello. Bob spoke softly and looked directly into my eyes, his gaze was so peaceful and mystic, you know when you meet someone and they give off an aura of peace and love, you feel that love every time you think of that person, and I do...
Hail Selassie High Bob, may you continue to walk with the angels.
